給初學者的愛爾蘭俚語

愛爾蘭？聽到這個國家的第一印象大概就是會提到養牛養羊、馬鈴薯和一直下雨的天氣，但其實愛爾蘭人的生活不只如此，讓我們來看看愛爾蘭的俚語想要告訴我們一些什麼吧！

俚語；I'm as sick as a small hospital.我病得就像一個小醫院一樣

意思：我今天真的很不想來之類的

俚語；He would get up on a cracked plate.他會在一個裂開的盤子中起床(我覺得應該是嚇醒吧！)
意思：指男生對女生很不挑

俚語：She's so ugly the tide wouldn’t take her out.她醜到連海潮都不想把她帶走(好毒XD)

意思：她真的長得不是很好看

俚語：He is an awful long string of misery.他是一個不幸的超級長字符串

意思：那個男人寧可長得又高又骨感

俚語：He was as useful as a cigarette lighter on a motorbike.他就如同摩托車上的點火氣有用(真的很毒XD)

意思：這個男人一點用處都沒有

俚語：You couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.你不能用班鳩琴去打一頭母牛的屁股(這個聽起來蠻可愛的XD)

意思：你完全放錯重點了

俚語：He was as tight as a ducks arse.他就跟鴨屁股一樣緊繃(意思是夾很緊嗎？)

意思：他過去曾經很窮

俚語：You could talk for Ireland.你可以討論愛爾蘭的人事物(這是很好的讚美XD)

意思：表示很健談。

俚語：Grand soft day.偉大又柔軟的一天(這應該是反諷吧！)

意思：今天天氣糟透了！

俚語：Sound as a pound!聽起來就像一個英鎊！(我想這應該有歷史淵緣)

意思：這個計畫聽起來很不錯！

俚語：We're sucking diesel now.我們正在吸柴油！！！(這要是是真的應該會中毒= =)
意思：事情漸入佳境

俚語：Do you fancy a few scoops?你對幾勺有興趣嗎？(這應該也有歷史淵緣)

意思：你要來杯酒嗎？

俚語：That lad is an awful chancer.這個小伙子是一個糟糟的機會主義者！

意思：他會無所不用其極

俚語：Christ on a bike.耶穌在騎腳踏車！
意思：我不敢相信我眼前發生的事！

俚語：You'll have a cup in your hand你的手裡將會握著一個杯子

意思：你想要喝杯茶嗎？

「你幹麼不回我？」── 一位希臘媽媽的抱怨

「你幹麼不回我？」這句話並不是現代媽媽的專利，早在羅馬統治時期的希臘，就有一位媽媽曾經如此寫信抱怨孩子，雖然信件的內容並不完整，但是根據翻譯多少可以看出媽媽在抱怨兒子遠洋後無音訊一事。

I wrote you a letter [?but did not receive a] letter. Was it for this that I carried you for ten months and nursed you for three years, so that you would be incapable of remembering me by letter? And similarly you dimissed me though the Oasites . . . not I you. But I left your brothers in Arabia . . . so that . . Egypt I might see your face and . . . breath. I only ask and beg and adjure you by the one whom you . . . and by the memory of the one who begot you, to sail away if you are well. I . . . Amarantos. But . . . Arabia, sister has departed and the little one is present . . . I ask and beg you . . . Save your brother. For I have no one . . . your bother . . . with the first winds, but he found some . . . and came to me in Berenike. Epaphras greets you warmly . . . and those who love us. [Year . ., month] 24. 親愛的Isidoros，我覺得你離開Berenike之後你應該要寫信給我，雖然我有寫信給你，但是你都沒有回我！我懷了你十個月而且養了你三年，難道這一切無法讓你記得我？同樣地你在Oasites時也沒有和我聯絡。我將你的兄弟們留在阿拉伯……以致於….埃及，我可能會看到你的臉……呼吸。如果你過得很好，我只以那一個…..人要求、乞求並且命令你……並以生下你的人的記憶去航行。我……風滾草。但是……阿拉伯，姊妹們都分開了而且最小的現在……我要求並乞求你…..救救你的兄弟。看在我沒有人的份上……你的兄弟……帶著第一陣風，但是他找到了一些……並且回來過Berenike來看我。溫暖地送上我的問候……和那些愛我們的人。Hikane寫給她的碼頭工人兒子Isidoros。
